SPCA Coin Drive

Volunteering

For the month of November, HIC is going to be doing a coin drive… with a purpose. Something tangible we can move towards so we know where the coins we are donating are going. We also wanted to restrict it to a charity in Hawaii so we can do the most good in our own backyard. The result… a coin drive for the SPCA – Society for the Prevention of…

September Event: Manoa Cliff Restoration Day Complete

Volunteering

Thanks to Rosie, Ben, and his wife Erica who showed up to join in on the restoration fun. Upon arriving at 9am, it was pouring rain with no end in sight. The group of volunteers were told that it was likely we may not go in if the rain didn’t let up as a) it can be very chilly working while wet and b) it’s hard to do certain restoration…

Sandy Beach Cleanup: Summary

Volunteering

On July 14 we met up once again to pick up trash at Sandy Beach. Rosie, who had been out all night till 4am running with a friend to celebrate his birthday by running his age in miles (33), was the first to arrive and somehow summoned up the energy for the workday after a short rest on the beach.

It was another great turnout and the event was put…

July 14th Beach Cleanup

RevoluSun and Surfrider Foundation are asking for volunteers to help clean up pounds of trash at Sandy Beach. HIC did this as our first event and we had a blast. There were prizes, raffles, and secret things hidden in the sand to find, hundreds of people came out and it was amazing to see so many people taking care of our beautiful island. For anyone that wants to, Rosie will…

June Event Recap

Volunteering

Well… June was a sad month. We lost our beloved Cheeky. But we also did a lot of good.

The Heeaia restoration ended up getting cancelled and we will be rescheduling for a later date.

For the DLNR Trail Clearing, Rosie was the only one from HIC in attendance but it was a fantastic day. They spent roughly 5 hours doing hard labor in the mountains clearing a trail that…
