Summary of May “George-a-pa-looza!”
Just a quick wrap up from the events in May.
Saturday
Rosie’s H.U.R.T. group put on a ‘Run for George!’ event Saturday morning. They ended up raising almost $7,000, every cent of which went to her buddy George who is battling cancer. About 75 runners come out and Rosie baked some impressive ‘George’ cake pops all while helping her friend Steve organize where the event. She also wore the famed banana costume while cheering on runners during the event.
Sunday
On Sunday, Oahu’s North Shore paddle boarding community came together to help by putting on the ‘Paddle for George’. It was a downwind 3.5 mile race from the North Shore landmarks of Sunset Beach to Waimea Bay. Over 300 paddlers turned up, including almost 150 SUPs. This was Rosie’s first SUP race and she had a super amazing time!
Seeing the community support was one of the most amazing things she’s ever seen. It’s so important when volunteering to be able to see and know that you are making a difference, and what better way than to see the person you are helping first hand. We were truly able to change his life. And from what I heard, another group on Maui put on another water event as well, but I haven’t heard how it went. George Ramos is a bit of a legend in Hawaii and one of the toughest guys around… so glad we could help him.
Next up
We’re going to have multiple events in June and we’ll post full detail shortly.
