Hawaii State Library website wins Silver W3 Award

The Hawaii State Library System has once again been nationally recognized as a winner of the 12th annual W3 Awards. It was also recently honored as the recipient of the Best Government Website Award from the Web Marketing Association for its user-centric, innovative, and mobile-oriented website.

“The Hawaii State Library System’s website was chosen out of more than 5,000 entries for these highly sought-after awards,” said Hawaii State Librarian Stacey Aldrich. “To be recognized on a national level for providing our citizens with a best in class design and extreme usability is something we are very proud of.”

The award-winning redesign of the library site has delivered a new standard for library sites nationwide. Through collaborative user-centered design workshops with library staff, design strategies were uncovered that would appeal to fiercely loyal library users and new users alike. The team used patrons’ personal stories about how the library has impacted their lives to surface and promote the library’s diverse services such as passports, talking books for the visually impaired, quilt patterns, free databases, free online classes, eBooks, thousands of events, and so much more. The site was also re-organized to reflect how patrons ask questions, making it easier for users to search and find the items they seek. Existing social media imagery was also integrated into the new visual design demonstrating that the library is safe, friendly, community-driven, and a fun place.

The Hawaii State Public Library System website was created in partnership with Hawaii Information Consortium, LLC, the official Internet portal manager of eHawaii.gov.
