Hawaii Remote Online Notary Applications Now Available Through Attorney General Website

The Hawaii Department of the Attorney General’s Notary Public Office is pleased to announce active notary commissions can now apply to become a remote online notary (RON) at notary.ehawaii.gov.

On January 1, 2021, the enactment of Act 54 permitted the Notary Public Office to amend the Hawaii Administrative Rules to allow notaries public located in Hawaii to provide services to signers in any location, including online notarizations. Notaries public are required to be physically located in the State at the time of the notarial act.

“Bringing this registration process online is part of our Department’s continued effort to provide efficient and effective services to the public,” said Hawaii Attorney Holly T. Shikada. “We appreciate the partnership with NIC Hawaii, as the COVID-19 pandemic increased interest in providing online delivery of services previously requiring in-person interaction.”

To apply, notaries must visit notary.ehawaii.gov and submit the RON application. Notaries can make payments, schedule their exam, and view the status of their application at any time throughout the process.

“Our ongoing partnership with the Department of the Attorney General has enabled the creation of this digital government solution,” said Burt Ramos, NIC Hawaii general manager. “We want to help them make it easy to bring new services directly to their constituents quickly and safely, particularly during these unprecedented times of uncertainty.”

The remote online notary application system was created in partnership with NIC Hawaii, part of NIC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tyler Technologies.
