Hawaii Police Department Website Wins Two Awards for Redesign

The Hawaii Police Department (HPD) has earned two top honors for the recent redesign of its official website, www.hawaiipolice.gov, which launched on November 12, 2024.

In March, the department received a Gold Award for Best User Experience from the Global Excellence (GX) Awards, recognizing outstanding innovation and design by organizations worldwide. The accolades continued in April, when the Hermes Creative Awards presented HPD with a second Gold Award, highlighting the website’s exceptional functionality and user experience.

The redesigned site, developed in partnership with Tyler Hawaii, a subsidiary of Tyler Technologies, marks the first major update since 2011. It was created to improve community engagement and make it easier for Hawaii Island residents to access vital services and information.

Key features include:

  • A recruitment portal with detailed job information and insight into HPD’s culture and values
  • A fully mobile-responsive and accessible design for users of all abilities and devices
  • A robust library of safety tips for keiki, kupuna, families, and business owners
  • Streamlined navigation for topics including how to get a police report, background check or request presentations or tours.
  • A Crime Map powered by City Protect, allowing users to view incidents by neighborhood and timeframe

Visitors can also explore an event calendar, department history, crime prevention advice, and engaging bios of HPD’s K9 officers.
