Department of Taxation Announces New Bulk Filing Service, Gains in Electronic Filings

The Department of Taxation announces the launch of a new electronic service and historic numbers of electronic filings.

Bulk Filing Service

In response to requests from the public, the Department of Taxation has launched a new bulk filing service. Tax professionals can now quickly complete and submit tax returns and payments in bulk, rather than one at a time.

“We’re pleased to provide new electronic services for the State’s tax professionals and their clients,” said Director of Taxation Fred Pablo. “We continue to work with the tax community to hear their ideas and suggestions. Improvements like bulk filing helps to make their job easier and continues our effort to provide more services through the Internet.”

“Tax professionals will benefit greatly from this easy to use process. Bulk file will save an enormous amount of time and energy” explained Russell Castagnaro, General Manager of the Hawaii Information Consortium, LLC. “Now tax professionals can upload customer filings for HW-14 Periodic Withholding Tax Returns and VP-1e Tax Payments, and finish the entire process in a couple of mouse clicks. This is something that tax professionals have been asking for.”

Bulk File was developed and is maintained via the eHawaii.gov program, a largely self-funded public-private partnership between the State of Hawaii and Hawaii Information Consortium, a Hawaii corporation and wholly owned subsidiary of eGovernment firm NIC Inc. The Bulk Filing application is available at the Department’s Bulk File website: dotax.ehawaii.gov/bulktax (since discontinued).

Electronic Filing Numbers Up

The Department of Taxation is pleased to announce that electronic tax return filings skyrocketed in the days leading up to the January 20th filing deadline. This year, more than 42,000 tax returns were filed electronically. More than $77 million in payments were collected – a 27% increase over payments collected last year.

Historically, the January 20th deadline is one of the busiest times of the year for the Department. With thousands of taxpayers now opting to file electronically, Department staff are pleased to assist our other taxpayers who aren’t able to file electronically.
