Hawaii.gov Website Wins Platinum Global Excellence Award

The winners of the 2021 Global Excellence (GX) Awards have been announced and the Hawaii.gov website is the winner of a platinum award.

Serving as the official website for the State of Hawaii, the redesigned site makes it easy to find information curated for government, business, residents and visitors. The most popular page is a comprehensive list of all 120+ online government services offered throughout the state and counties.

“Hawaii.gov has enabled the public to continue doing business with government offices when they were closed in response to the pandemic,” said Douglas Murdock, chief information officer, State of Hawaii Office of Enterprise Technology Services. “The website offers a convenient and safe way to do business 24/7.”

Other highly requested areas includes the latest COVID information, a feed of the latest government news, a directory of all departments, agencies and state officials, public meeting calendars and weather alerts.

Highlighting Hawaii’s diversity, native culture, and the uniqueness of each island, Hawaii.gov also provides a web experience that truly reflects the Aloha state. On the homepage, the image background changes automatically every two months to feature unique photos taken by local photographers including a special holiday edition that appears every December.

To help citizens stay connected to their government, Hawaii.gov includes a directory of 344 social media pages, 43 mobile apps, a Flickr photo gallery where users can submit photos to be featured on the site, and a list of alerts, including traffic and lane closures, VOG, volcano eruptions, severe weather and beach alerts.

“With more than 100 submissions from different countries such as United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Canada, USA, Europe & Africa, we are truly honored that Hawaii.gov was selected as Platinum Winner,” said Burt Ramos, general manager, NIC Hawaii. “Thank you to the teams at ETS and NIC Hawaii for their hard work and dedication to making this award possible.”

The state’s official website was redesigned at no cost to Hawaii taxpayers through a public-private partnership between the state’s portal manager and NIC Hawaii, a subsidiary of Tyler Technologies, and the state of Hawaii.
